A congratulatory update!

Congratulations to all of the parents of tonight's WA Graduates!

We wish the class of 2016 wonderful success and lives rich with personal fulfillment and positive contributions to society!

It is a very exciting time and hard to believe that in just four short years our current 8th graders will be marching into the stadium in their caps and gowns as members of the graduating class of 2020.  Not to rush that at all, but for those of you attending tonight's ceremony it seems like it was only yesterday that the students were getting their first WA schedules and worrying about who they are going to eat with at lunch in the fall.

As part of that process, WPS Athletic Director Dan Twomey has asked us to share some important information regarding next year's transition to WA.

WESTFORD ACADEMY FALL SPORTS 2016 INFORMATION

Greetings Prospective Westford Academy Student Athletes and Parents,

Welcome to Grey Ghost Athletics!  The Westford Academy athletic program is one of the largest and most extensive sport offerings in Massachusetts with over 1,300 athletic opportunities throughout the year.  In addition, the Grey Ghosts compete in the Dual County League that consists of many of the top programs/teams in the state and in the top divisions of MIAA Tournament.

The interscholastic athletic experience here is a commitment.  During the season, varsity programs compete or practice six days a week and varsity teams can expect to participate on weekends and over vacations.  Freshmen and Junior varsity teams at a minimum will participate five days a week.  Most JV teams will participate 6 days a week during the season.  This includes all vacations.  In addition to developing sport skills, this high level of commitment by the students will foster the growth of the positive values associated with interscholastic athletics.

Recently, Westford Academy fall season coaches, captains and I visited Blanchard and Stony Brook Middle Schools to share information about the upcoming fall 2016 season with the current 8th graders.  Students were given the opportunity to “sign up” for a sport. This visit was for fall sports only because the season begins before the school year starts.   Winter and spring programs have informational meetings during the school year that students may attend.

For more information and for information on how to register for fall sports please visit www.wagreyghosts.com  .  Students must have a current physical and a completed online registration process in order to participate on the 1st day of tryouts/practice.

Additionally, the WMSPTO has asked us to share the following info regarding the evening they sponsor every year to bring the 8th graders from both middle schools together to celebrate:

8th Grade Parents:

The annual 8th Grade Celebration Dance is coming up quickly! Do we have your student's permission slip?

  • Permission slips for the dance will continue to be collected thru Monday June 13thSlips are available in your school office. Unfortunately, we can no longer accommodate specific t-shirt size requests. We will have over 400 students to check-in and prefer to have the majority of students PRE-REGISTERED before the event so your cooperation is appreciated.
  • Attire for the evening will be dressy casual not semi-formal.  Wear white or neon so you will GLOW! Evening activities include DJ, dancing, glow wear and plenty of free refreshments. There will be a uniformed police officer on the premises as well as parent chaperones.  Appropriate behavior outlined in WPS handbook is expected at all times.
  • Please drop off & pick up at right side entrance of school and be prompt. We strongly encourage carpooling.
  • Stony Brook Middle School Gym, on Thursday, June 16th from 7:00-9:30 pm
Again, no rush...let them enjoy being 8th graders!

After all, it will not be long at all until they are turning their tassels and tossing their caps in joy!

Congratulations to tonight's WA Graduating Class of 2016!

We hope your memories of your time growing up in Westford includes fond memories from your years at Stony Brook, as well.

We are proud of all of your successes and wish you well in your future.
